SARA BJÖRNSDÓTTIR Concrete realism. Pencil drawing on concrete. Realistically drawn cracks onto the walls in the space, they are at the same time realistic and abstract. The title refers to certain art policy and to the fate of concrete. Black Icelander. I broke a black rock with a chisel and a hammer. Weight and wrapped the pieces into cellophane. I felt that I was engaging in a performance that worked on many levels at the same time. At the time being it was spot on braking Icelandic rock in the UK and making a product that worked for me as an export merchandize. 1001 Heavy beauty. Installation in 250 square meters space with no windows and black painted walls. 1001 rocks with 23.250 plastic “crystals” glued onto them. The rocks where scattered around the floor in the space which was completely darkened. The guest got a pocket light to get through the piece. The light reflected the sparkle from the “plastals”. Salem lights. Salem lights is a real-time video of a cigarette burning up I wish you had more time. Also shown in Reykjavíks Harbour art gallery in 2009. |
