Opening: On Display: Queer Above Others

The Living Art Museum warmly welcomes you to the opening of the exhibition On Display: Queer Above Others, on Saturday, October 8 from 15–17. The exhibition presents works by Annu Maggý, Ari Logn, BERGHALL - Anna Hallin og Olga Bergmann, Hrafna Jóna Ágústsdóttir, RB Erin Moran, Regn Sólmundur Evu and Viktoría Guðnadóttur in conversation with works from The Living Art Museum's collection by Dorothy Iannone, Níels Hafstein, Ragna Hermannsdóttir, Róska, Svala Sigurleifsdóttir and Stephen Lawson.

The exhibition On Display: Queer Above Others addresses queer art and queerness in art and museums. The exhibition is curated by art historian Ynda Eldborg, and artist Viktoría Guðnadóttir. The exhibition spans works from The Living Art Museum’s collection, selected by the curators' queer eyes and years of experience, as well as new works created by queer visual artists. In the autumn of 2021, Ynda and Viktoría went through the collection of The Living Art Museum, and selected works that can be seen or interpreted as queer. The artists were then invited to create new works that correspond to a number of the works that Ynda and Viktoría had pre-selected, thus promoting and starting a visual dialogue with the queerness of works from the museum's collection. The artists were free to select any work and create new work without any restrictions on their work or medium. The new works and the works from the collection are exhibited side by side.
